Web Design: Learn to Budget Wisely

Owning your own business is an exciting adventure but it comes with a lot of compromises, value, and time management. If and when you do find your niche at what you're good at, learn to budget before going all out and purchasing a web hosting provider. In lamest terms, do your research.

Finding a hosting provider is simple, just Google and all the information pops up. Just don't buy into all the ads that pop up, because if you do you're stuck with not knowing how to move forward when it comes to DNS configuration and all the hidden package fees. I've tried them all, trust me there are hidden fees and packages they don't tell you until you purchased your domain and on your dashboard.

However, choosing the right one is where it gets tricky because you have to decide what works best for you and your company. If you want to save money as an individual or start-up, then do what I do. Purchase a domain through Google Domains ($12/year) and build your website either through Blogger, it's basically free if you do it right.

So, instead of wasting a lot of money on various hosting providers, I saved myself hundreds of dollars by eliminating the middle man. Unless of course you don't know how to build yourself a website but are willing to learn or pay someone for their time. People need to make a living, so hopefully, you're not one of those cheapskates and try to lower the designer's valuable time. Hence, we freelancers have begun to have contracts prior to any work being done for a non-refundable security deposit. Time is money.

For those who don't want to deal with research, the best place to shop for a graphic or web designer is on Etsy. Designers have uploaded their portfolio for digital downloads to do it yourself on various platforms from WordPress, Blogger, and social media marketing-related items (logos, business cards, Instagram Covers, etc.). It's a great place to purchase what you're looking for and the best part is that all the reviews are in one place for your convenience. Prices are great as well, depending on what you're looking for. The turnaround is within minutes of the purchase to two to three-day turnaround. Can't go wrong with that.

As for plugins within WordPress, people don't really need all those gadgets. That's going to be another subject entirely.

Until then, take care and have a great one.
